A fantastic night of badminton took place on Friday night at the Kerry County Championships, with thrilling Division 2 and Division 4 Doubles matches.
A huge thank you to Tom Bradley for capturing the action, and to the Tralee club for providing helpers Jill Redman, Michelle Corr, and Yvonne Burgin for running the desk and ensuring all games finished on time.
Division 4 Women's Doubles (Marion O'Neill Cup)
The semi-finals saw Molly McElligott and Triona Prendville (Listowel) beat Saoirse Murphy and Darina Ellen Burke (Killarney) to earn their spot in the final. In the other semi-final, Charlotte Fitzgerald (Moyvane) and Fang Cooper (Tralee) took on Maggie Li and Sinead McElligott (Listowel), winning in 3 sets to secure their place in the final. The final was won by Molly McElligott and Triona Prendville, who will carry home the Marion O'Neill Cup after the social in May. Prendiville is having a great year, having won the Women's Division 4 Singles last week.
Division 4 Men's Doubles
The Tralee pairing of Jomy Joy and Sonu Sabu took on Evan Lemass (Killarney) and Niall O'Hanlon (Moyvane) in the first semi-final, winning their spot in the final in 2 sets. In the other semi-final, Jophy John (Tralee) and James O'Mahony (Ballyheigue) beat Brian Griffin and John Minogue (Moyvane). The final saw last year's winners Jomy Joy and Jophy John competing against each other to retain the title, with Jomy Joy emerging victorious with his partner Sonu Sabu.
Division 2 Women's Doubles (Brid Murphy Cup)
The first semi-final was a walkover for Helen Brown (Moyvane) and Jennifer Nash (Killarney), as their opponents Catherine Hanrahan and Brid Murphy were unable to continue after Brid Murphy turned her ankle. In the other semi-final, Ava MacKay (Listowel) and Jessica O'Loughlin (Kingdom) fought hard to beat Ruth Concannon and Adele O'Brien, who was last week's Division 2 Singles Champion. The final saw Helen Brown and Jennifer Nash retain their title for a second year.
Division 2 Men's Doubles
The first semi-final saw Aidan McCarthy (Kingdom) and Brendan McGovern (Annascaul) beat Brendan Carroll (Tralee) and Daniel Weiland (Listowel) in a competitive 3-setter. In the other semi-final, the Tralee pairing of Ushas Girijakumari Raju and Florence Griffin beat Antonii Paiuk (Tralee) and Naveen Puppala (Killarney). The final was won by Raju and Griffin in a competitive 3-setter.
