The Division 2 and 4 Men's and Women's Singles Kerry Championship took place in Tralee, with a large number of entries making for a thrilling competition.

A huge thank you to Castleisland Club for providing court helpers, especially Edel Kenny and Mary Bradley, who manned the desk, keeping things running smoothly 😊. Thanks also to Tom Bradley for capturing all the action in photos 📸.

Here's a rundown of the results:
  • - Division 2 Men's Singles (Johnny O'Halloran Cup): Brendan McGovern (Annascaul) won the title after Donncha Moloney (Moyvane) retired due to injury in the final
  • - Division 2 Women's Singles (Peggy Horan Cup): Adele O'Brien (Killarney) retained her title, beating Helen Browne (Moyvane) 2-0 in the final
  • - Division 4 Men's Singles: Evan Lemass (Killarney) held on to his title, beating Jomy Joy (Tralee) in a close 3-setter
  • - Division 4 Women's Singles: Triona Prendiville (Listowel) took the title, beating Emilie Browne (Moyvane) in a thrilling 3-set final that went down to extra aces!

The Division 2 Men's Singles saw two thrilling 3-set semi-finals. Last week's Division 3 Men's Singles County Champion Daniel Weiland (Listowel) faced Annascaul's Brendan McGovern, but experience won out and McGovern earned his spot in the final. In the other semi-final, Donncha Moloney (Moyvane) took on Listowel's Oscar McElligott, and after winning the first set against McGovern in the final, Moloney had to retire due to a calf injury, handing McGovern the title.

The Division 2 Women's final saw Adele O'Brien (Killarney) take on Helen Browne (Moyvane), with O'Brien retaining her title in straight sets. Interestingly, Helen Browne is the mother of Emilie Browne, who was the runner-up in the Div 4 Women's Singles 😊.

The Division 4 Men's Singles saw Evan Lemass (Killarney) defend his title, beating Jomy Joy (Tralee) in a close 3-setter. Both semi-finals were won in straight sets, with Lemass beating Michael Heaphy (Listowel) and Joy beating Niall O'Hanlon (Moyvane).

The Division 4 Women's Singles was full of drama, with both semi-finals going to 3 sets. Reigning champion Sinead McElliott (Listowel) fought hard against her clubmate Triona Prendiville (Listowel) to make the final, while Emilie Browne (Moyvane) took on Fang Cooper (Tralee) and won in 3 sets.

The final between Triona Prendiville and Emilie Browne was a real showstopper, with the match going all the way to extra aces. Prendiville ultimately emerged victorious, and the two players showed great sportsmanship, sharing a hug after the match.
